Ian Furman
Ian Furman advises clients on domestic and international transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and energy development projects. Ian regularly works on corporate transactions of all kinds but has significant experience with energy industry transactions. On behalf of clients, he has experience negotiating and drafting sale and purchase agreements, joint venture agreements as well as other project and enterprise development agreements both in the United States and internationally, with a particular focus on Asia, Europe and Latin America.
Ian also advises clients on matters involving the development, operation, acquisition and disposition of renewable energy assets, including the construction and operation of solar, wind, and biomass facilities.
Previously, Ian worked on secondment with three global energy companies, where his responsibilities included negotiating purchase and sale agreements for power, oil, gas, metals and chemicals, spot contracts, storage agreements, agreements for the development of green hydrogen production facilities and related transactions.
Ian is currently a fellow for the Houston Bar Foundation and the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation. Before joining Lathrop GPM, Ian was an associate at a global law firm where he concentrated his practice on corporate and business transactions, focusing on energy industry transactions. He previously served on the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Professionalism Committee and is a former HYLA/HYLF Adopt-an-Angel program chair. Ian also served on the board of directors of the Houston Young Lawyers Association and the Houston Lawyer Referral Service.

- Represented an individual investor in the negotiation and purchase of notes and warrants in a privately held corporation.
- Represented a global food and beverage company in the corporate reorganization of certain Texas-based subsidiaries.
- Represented a U.S. energy company in the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant in California.
- Represented a global energy company in the divestiture of two solar power projects in California.
- Represented a major European energy company in the divestiture of its interest in four wind power projects in West Texas.
- Represented an international energy company in the proposed $1 billion+ divestiture of its U.S. wind power portfolio.
- Advised an international oilfield services company in the divestiture of certain testing and production services.
- Represented a Mexican oil and gas services company in the expansion of its U.S. line of business.
- Represented a U.S. oilfield services company in negotiations regarding a distribution agreement for charges, switches and related products.
- Represented a global oilfield services company in the expansion of its directional drilling capabilities.
