Law Students

Our Summer Program

The question of where to practice is often as difficult to answer as what to practice. Certainly, the process of determining which law firm can be confusing. Law firms each have a unique personality, and an important part of the process of becoming a summer associate is finding the right fit for you.

We set our summer class size based on anticipated hiring needs, and always hope to be in a position to make offers to summer associates who have performed well. We provide meaningful work and observation opportunities to summer associates so that they get a realistic perspective on the practice of law at Lathrop GPM, and so that we get a realistic understanding of summer associates’ skills and abilities. This means that we hire associates with the goal of helping them to be successful and to build a career with us.

We also provide summer associates with opportunities to form social bonds throughout the firm. Social and team-building events include dinner parties, sports activities, trips to client facilities, tours of local attractions, and evening outings at concerts, plays and sporting events. This is an integral part of the summer program, as lawyers and summer associates get to know one another outside the office atmosphere.

“Beginning with my first interaction with the firm, each individual was welcoming and genuinely seemed to love the firm. I was interested in Lathrop GPM's commitment to advancing law students holistically, creating opportunities for learning and growth in multiple areas.”
Lauryn Masters, Washington University School of Law '24

“The firm gave me the opportunity to explore different areas of the law, pursue important pro bono work and take on challenging projects. The attorneys provide support and feedback for the development of practical legal skills and go out of their way to welcome you into the community.”
Shoshanah Shanes, Washington University School of Law ‘20
