David Waters Appointed to Westwood Planning Commission

The Planning Commission for the City of Westwood, Kan., has appointed David Waters (Real Estate - Overland Park) to its nine-member body, as of September 12, 2008. Members are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council, and serve for three-year terms.

The Planning Commission is responsible for preparing a comprehensive plan for the development of the city and for recommending changes to the city's Governing Body. The Planning Commission also recommends the boundaries of city zones and districts, considers rezoning requests, and reviews and approves plats for the subdivisions of property. The Planning Commission also serves as Westwood's Board of Zoning Appeals. The board considers appeals from adverse decisions in the administration of the City's Zoning Code, and considers requests for variances and exemption from the strict application of the Zoning Code.

Mr. Waters represents developers, landowners, and local governments in planning, zoning, and real estate development matters, and regularly appears before planning commissions and city councils. Mr. Waters also handles all general real estate matters, including the negotiation and settlement of sales agreements, easements, title matters, and commercial leases. He also has experience in eminent domain and condemnation proceedings, representing affected property owners, though he has also assisted local governments with their land use issues.
