James S. Simonson Receives Richard S. Arnold Award from Federal 8th Circuit Court of Appeals

MINNEAPOLIS (August 25, 2014) — Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that James S. Simonson, principal in the firm’s Litigation practice group, has been awarded the Richard S. Arnold Award for Distinguished Service and Lifetime Achievement for the District of Minnesota at the 2014 Judicial Conference of the Federal 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The award is named in honor of the distinguished Judge Arnold, a former Chief Judge of the Eighth Circuit. Following graduation from Harvard Law School and Yale University, Judge Arnold served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice William Brennan. He later served as a judge for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals for more than twenty years.

Like Arnold, Simonson is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He has been with Gray Plant Mooty for over 55 years and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© for 30 consecutive years. He practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, securities, and products liability litigation, at both the trial and appellate court levels. He has tried scores of cases in the state and federal courts, and has prosecuted or defended numerous appeals in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, as well as in the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Simonson currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is also Chair of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society.
