Lathrop Gage Advances Six Attorneys to Partnership

Kansas City, MO (Jan. 1, 2019) – Lathrop Gage is excited to announce that it has promoted six lawyers to Partner, effective January 1, 2019. Emily E. Cantwell, Alice E. Jennett, Andrew J. Ricke, Eric D. Sidler, Jonathan R. Waldron and Amanda L. Yoder will become Partners at that time.

Emily Cantwell (Business Litigation, Labor & Employment Law – St. Louis): Cantwell focuses her practice specifically in the areas of commercial, banking and real estate litigation; loan enforcement, employment, title disputes and mechanic’s liens. In her representation of financial institutions, Cantwell works to protect and enforce clients’ rights through litigation of breach of contract actions, asset protection and other matters involving real estate and loan collateral. Also advising on labor and employment matters, Cantwell assists entities in navigating the employment law process, from the administrative level up to and including litigation. Cantwell serves as counsel in the defense of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour and other employment lawsuits, mediations and arbitrations. Additionally, she advises employers on daily human resources matters, including labor relations, non-compete issues and helps to conduct investigations of employee complaints. Cantwell was named to Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s 2017 Up & Coming Class and listed as a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” 2014-2017. Cantwell received her Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law.

Alice Jennett (Tax Credit Finance, Real Estate – St. Louis): Jennett works with equity investors, tax credit allocatees, lenders and developers in a variety of real estate matters involving federal, state and local tax credits and incentives including new markets tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits and low-income housing tax credits. She also advises clients on various real estate issues regarding the acquisition, development, financing and leasing of commercial, senior and multi-family residential property. Jennett received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Saint Louis University School of Law, with a taxation concentration, and her LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University School of Law, where she earned the Gary I. Boren Memorial Award (awarded to the highest-ranking student completing the LL.M. in taxation) and four CALI awards.  

Andrew Ricke (Product Liability and Personal Injury, Business and Employment Litigation – Overland Park): Ricke focuses his practice on litigating personal injury, business and employment claims, providing representation through all phases of a dispute, including pre-suit investigation and consultation, mediation, arbitrations, trials and appeals. Ricke has substantial experience defending companies and organizations in product liability, toxic exposure, premise liability, nuisance and professional liability matters. Ricke also advises and represents individuals and companies in business-related disputes and breach of contract actions. He also provides consultation and defense to employers facing various types of employment charges and claims, including discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and wage-and-hour issues, as well as enforcement of non-compete and other employment agreements. Ricke was named a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” 2016-2018. Ricke received his Juris Doctor, with Advocacy Certificate, from the University of Kansas School of Law.

Eric Sidler (Intellectual Property – Kansas City): Sidler represents clients in complex trademark, patent, copyright, trade secret, false advertising, and domain name disputes in courts and administrative tribunals throughout the United States, including in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Sidler also counsels clients on brand management issues such as trademark and domain name registration, maintenance, enforcement, and licensing strategies, as well as copyright registration, enforcement, and licensing issues. Sidler was named a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” 2017-2018. Sidler received his Juris Doctor, with high honors, Order of the Coif, from The George Washington University Law School. Before joining Lathrop Gage, Sidler clerked for Judge Lynn J. Bush of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and represented clients in various complex civil disputes, including representation of major insurance companies in third-party liability insurance coverage disputes in federal and state courts throughout the United States.

Jonathan Waldron (Environmental Law, Business Litigation and Insurance Recovery – St. Louis): Waldron represents corporate clients and individuals in complex matters involving environmental litigation, construction and business litigation, and insurance recovery on behalf of insureds. He defends environmental claims, handles allocation matters, and initiates contribution actions for cost recovery associated with remediation of Superfund and other pollution sites involving polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hydrocarbons, benzene, lead and various other chemicals and heavy metals. Additionally, Waldron handles matters involving product pipeline releases and hydrocarbon contamination of soil and groundwater stemming from historical oil refinery and/or petrochemical operations. Waldron also counsels clients in business litigation matters, including disputes concerning renewable biofuels and construction defect and design matters. He has successfully represented insureds to obtain coverage in insurance actions, and obtained awards of penalties and attorney’s fees when the insurance company vexatiously refused to timely pay on a valid insurance claim. In 2015 and 2016, Waldon was named to The Missouri Bar’s Pro Bono Wall of Fame. Waldron received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law.

Amanda Yoder (Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions – Kansas City): Yoder assists clients in the formation and structuring of business entities and relationships, with a particular emphasis on the financial services industry. Yoder counsels clients on complex financing transactions, including revolving credit facilities and complicated and unique financial structures. She also advises on related acquisition financing issues. Yoder counsels lenders and borrowers on secured and unsecured lending, refinance matters, regulatory and compliance issues, environmental issues, loan workouts and restructures. In addition, Yoder represents buyers and sellers in structuring, negotiating and completing mergers and acquisitions, and has assisted with due diligence investigations, the purchase and sale of both stock and assets in regulated and unregulated industries, closings and post-closing obligations and rights. She also serves as outside general counsel for several clients. Yoder was named a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Star,” 2017-2018. Yoder received her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law.
