Lathrop Gage Elects Cameron Garrison as Next Managing Partner

10/23/2017

Kansas City, Mo. (October 23, 2017) – The partners of Lathrop Gage have elected Cameron Garrison the next Managing Partner of the firm. Garrison will begin his tenure as Managing Partner on January 1, 2018. Garrison succeeds Mark Bluhm, who will become Chairman of the firm and return to practicing law.

“This is an era of change in the legal industry, and Lathrop Gage is committed to identifying and implementing innovative strategies that allow us to exceed the expectations of today’s sophisticated clients,” Garrison said. “Our lawyers and staff understand that it is no longer enough to only provide exceptional legal services.  We must also do so in a way that reflects a thorough understanding of our clients’ business pressures and adds value at every opportunity.  I am excited to lead our firm into this new chapter and am honored to work with such an amazingly talented group of professionals.”

Garrison joined Lathrop Gage in 2002 upon graduating from law school and has built a nationwide intellectual property litigation practice from a base in Kansas City. He has significant experience in high-stakes patent, trademark, false advertising, copyright and trade secret litigation in a wide range of industries. He has served on Lathrop Gage’s Executive Committee since 2014 and is Assistant Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Division.

Active in the community, Garrison serves on the Board of Directors of Phoenix Family, a Kansas City-based organization whose mission is to empower people living in low-income housing communities with the on-site support they need to gain stability and achieve self-sufficiency. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Bioscience Association, and is a past board member of Saint Luke’s Hospital’s Children’s SPOT, the Lawyers Association of Kansas City-Young Lawyers Section and Kansas City Young Audiences. He is a graduate of Kansas City Tomorrow and was named to the Kansas City Business Journal’s 2013 class of “NextGen Leaders.” Selected a “Recognized Practitioner” by Chambers USA, Garrison also was named among Best Lawyers® the last two years. He holds a juris doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law and a bachelor of arts from the University of Virginia.

“Cameron has been an engaged and active member of our leadership team for several years,” said Bluhm. “He exhibits all of the qualities that reflect our firm’s culture. He understands the changing legal environment and has a good sense of how our firm must continue to evolve to meet our clients’ needs. Cameron is the right person to lead our firm. I look forward to seeing where he takes Lathrop Gage.”

Bluhm returns to a private practice that regularly has him listed among the top corporate attorneys in Kansas City. His practice focuses on mergers, acquisitions and general business matters, including strategic alliances, equity capital investments and new business formations. He has repeatedly been recognized by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers® for excellence in corporate law and mergers and acquisitions.

Under his leadership, Lathrop Gage enjoyed many significant successes, including the addition of a nationally-recognized tax credit financing group to its St. Louis office, a high profile IP litigation group to its Chicago office and the recent addition of a policyholder and insurance coverage group in Los Angeles led by one of the leading insurance coverage lawyers in the country as recognized by Chambers USA.  This year, the firm launched a new brand and, earlier this month, Lathrop Gage announced the creation of Lathrop Gage Consulting, a subsidiary providing government affairs and lobbying capabilities.
