Lathrop Gage Enhances Intellectual Property Capabilities in Boston


BOSTON (October 2, 2012) – Lathrop Gage LLP announced today that John Haberman and William Scofield Jr. have joined the firm as of counsel. Both will join the firm’s intellectual property department and be located in the Boston office. Haberman will concentrate his practice in patent drafting and procurement, and Scofield will concentrate his practice in litigation.

Prior to joining Lathrop Gage Haberman served as a senior patent director for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals where he oversaw the Infection patent attorney group. He has extensive experience drafting new pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology and medical device patent applications, and prosecuting applications in the United States and abroad. Haberman received his bachelor of arts degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook, his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Tulane University Graduate School and his juris doctorate from Tulane University Law School.

Scofield brings more than 25 years of experience in general and IP litigation, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and intellectual property counseling. He has extensive experience handling matters involving technologies including semiconductors, medical devices, high speed liquid chromatography, viscometers, biotechnology, and drug development screening. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. Scofield earned his bachelor of arts, magna cum laude from Wesleyan University, and his juris doctorate, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law.

Haberman and Scofield follow the recent addition of seasoned IP litigator John Gutkoski and the additions of Bob Anderson and Ken Zwicker from Abbott Laboratories.
