California’s updated fall protection standards are reshaping safety protocols across the residential construction industry.

Lathrop GPM Labor & Employment Partner Michael Manoukian was recently quoted by SHRM in a feature detailing Cal/OSHA’s revised requirements for fall protection, which now mandate safeguards for work performed at heights of 6 feet or more. Manoukian discussed the implications for employers, emphasizing the importance of proper training, documentation and oversight to ensure compliance and avoid liability.

“Cal/OSHA holds all controlling employers responsible for ensuring safety regulations are followed on their jobsites,” said Manoukian. “California may require more rigorous documentation and oversight in some cases, so it’s critical that general contractors actively monitor subcontractor compliance.”
