J.P. Jones handles business and commercial litigation matters, including commercial lease disputes, partnership disputes, construction defects, breach of contract claims, and various other real property and business disputes in both state and federal court.
With experience spanning complex commercial cases from inception through trial, J.P. brings a strong courtroom presence to his practice. He has second-chaired both bench and jury trials, including a six-week fraud bench trial in which he conducted direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, delivered oral arguments, and helped secure a seven-figure judgment for his client. He also second-chaired a four-week jury trial, cross-examining expert witnesses and drafting critical evidentiary bench briefs.
J.P. has extensive motion practice experience, having drafted and argued more than 30 contested motions—including successful demurrers, motions for summary judgment, and discovery motions—in California state and federal courts. He has also conducted and defended more than 15 depositions in complex civil litigation and served as lead counsel in multiple mediations, negotiating favorable settlement terms for his clients.
Before joining Lathrop GPM, J.P. practiced at litigation firms in San Francisco and San Jose, where he represented commercial entities and property owners in high-value disputes. Earlier in his career, he served as a Bar-Certified Law Clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, where he investigated federal white-collar offenses and financial fraud and represented the United States in misdemeanor pre-trial proceedings. He also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Vanessa Zecher of the Santa Clara County Superior Court.
