James T. Schmidt, Jr. is a member of the firm’s Financial Services practice group, where he focuses his practice on bankruptcy matters, including both in-court and out-of-court restructurings, creditor enforcement and collection remedies, and related commercial litigation.

James has experience representing a diverse range of creditors in state and federal court, where he is known for his creative and efficient approach to achieving client objectives and maximizing their recoveries. James has a proven track record of successfully enforcing loan agreements to recover various types of collateral, including vehicles, real property, agricultural equipment, and aircraft. He also has experience representing both secured and unsecured creditors in federal bankruptcy courts.

Prior to joining Lathrop GPM, James served as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and as an associate attorney at a Nebraska-area law firm, where he focused on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights.
