Erika Mortensen is an associate supporting clients primarily within the firm’s Financial Services practice group. She represents financial institutions, secured creditors, landlords and other stakeholders in bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Her experience includes negotiating the settlement of five adversary preference actions on behalf of a client at a 76% discount to the asserted claims, successfully representing a landlord in a bankruptcy proceeding in which the court determined the debtor was not eligible to continue as a Subchapter V debtor and successfully moved for the appointment of a Chapter 11 Trustee in the same case, representing creditors in conducting 2004 Examinations and regularly represents creditors in motions for relief from the automatic stay.

Erika previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable William J. Fisher, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Minnesota.

Erika earned her J.D. at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude. While in law school, Erika honed her legal research skills as a research assistant, conducting extensive research on legal topics related to Federal Indian Law. Erika also served as a certified student attorney, working with a St. Paul-area attorney in private practice. 

Prior to her legal career, Erika spent ten years as a tax manager working for two major business management consultancies, making her especially adept to provide legal advisement on financial matters. Erika received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.

When she is not working, Erika enjoys reading, running and traveling to new places.
