On Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, 2025, Alma and Gabby will share Trusts and Estates insights on LGBTQ+ estate planning, administration, and litigation, not only for our LGBTQ+ clients, but also for our clients’ LGBTQ+ family members and beneficiaries. The presentation will include new developments from the 2025 Lavender Law Conference Trusts and Estates Institute and Transgender Law Institute. Alma and Gabby practice primarily in California and Missouri/Illinois respectively.

Among the issues covered:

  • Drafting options relating to pronouns, salutations, and other gendered references (e.g. niece, nephew, sister, brother), and how it impacts all estate plans.
  • Marriage and domestic partnership issues across jurisdictions, including relating to tenancy in the entirety, joint tenancy, property taxes, and common law marriage.
  • The impact of the “more than 2 parents” laws across the country on planning, administration, and litigation.
  • Guardianship and conservatorship orders that best protect LGBTQ+ people facing incapacity.
  • Cross-border inheritance, trust, and tax issues arising from our clients leaving the U.S. and/or moving to other states.
  • The rise of “Living Probate” across jurisdictions and where it can help LGBTQ+ clients and others.

At the October 22 webinar, Joe, Andrew, and Alison will also share insights across other jurisdictions, including Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Colorado.

The program will take place in person on October 15 in Redwood Shores, California, and as a webinar on October 22 on Zoom.
