Before the June 13 awards ceremony, Missouri Lawyers Media published individual profiles for all of their 2024 ICON Honorees. The firm is pleased to see Senior Counsel Jerry Riffel recognized with this great honor.

In the profile, staff note that Riffel served as the principal development attorney on the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in 2011 in Kansas City.

That included representing the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation in its successful effort to obtain $25 million in tax credits from the Missouri Development Finance Board and in negotiations with the city over tax credits and land usage.

Riffel also served as the principal development attorney for the group behind Union Station when they obtained public funding to build a parking garage and planetarium at the Kansas City site. He said he loved the experience of seeing those proposed projects become a reality and knowing “you played a little part in that.”

“I think those projects that I worked on helped save Kansas City and rebuild the urban core,” said Riffel.
