KANSAS CITY, Mo. (February 13, 2026) — Four Partners from the firm – Mike Abrams, Bill Beck, Alex Brown and Alana McMullin – have been named 2026 Legal Champions by Missouri Lawyers Media as part of its annual Missouri Lawyers Awards program. The attorneys were honored at an awards ceremony on February 12.
Abrams, Beck, Brown and McMullin were recognized for their significant contributions to the firm’s civil rights insurance recovery practice and for work that has had a meaningful impact both inside and outside the courtroom. The Legal Champion category recognizes lawyers who achieved remarkable results for clients through landmark decisions, impactful settlements or other extraordinary efforts.
In 2025, the team achieved a remarkable series of victories: within just two months, they secured five major civil rights settlements totaling nearly $59 million on behalf of men who had spent decades in prison for crimes they did not commit. Together, the team has recovered more than a quarter of a billion dollars for wrongly convicted individuals and their families since 2004 – including three of the largest settlements in U.S. history in this area.
