Alana McMullin focuses her practice on defending clients in complex insurance disputes, products liability and toxic tort litigation, as well as general liability matters. Alana is also a key member of the Lathrop GPM Civil Rights Insurance Recovery team, which litigates § 1983 civil rights claims on behalf of wrongfully convicted exonerees and has successfully secured millions in settlements for civil rights plaintiffs. As an insurance attorney, Alana analyzes policy terms, counsels clients on handling claims and risks, and negotiates with insurance carriers on behalf of policyholders facing environmental, product liability and other claims. As a litigator, Alana conducts initial case assessments, legal research, drafts pleadings and motions, responds to discovery and keeps clients informed.

In addition to her litigation and insurance experience, Alana’s most rewarding work is her pro bono practice. In conjunction with the Midwest Innocence Project, a non-profit based in Kansas City, Alana represents pro bono clients who were wrongfully convicted yet still incarcerated. Alana’s advocacy for the wrongfully convicted began in law school when Alana joined the Innocence Project Clinic, where she investigated potential claims of innocence and ascertained their validity.

Alana joined the firm after working as a summer associate in 2017, where she drafted memorandums and pleadings, conducted research, and assisted attorneys on wide array of litigation matters. While in law school, Alana advanced her public speaking, communication and trial skills by winning the Top Oral Advocate Award two years in a row in schoolwide Moot Court Competitions. Likewise, Alana was a member of the National Moot Court and National Mock Trial teams, competing in the National Trial Competition twice and placing among the top 10 teams in the country. Alana was also a member of the Elwood L. Thomas Inn of Court and was awarded the Order of the Barristers, an honor bestowed upon the top 10 oral advocates of her law school graduating class.

Alana enjoys traveling the world and in law school participated in the London Study Abroad program, where she observed the English legal system and took courses in English Comparative Law and International Business Organizations. In her spare time, Alana is the Commissioner of the Lathrop GPM Bachelor/Bachelorette Fantasy League, which includes attorneys from all practice groups in offices all over the country.
