Speaking with Minnesota Lawyer, Rhodes emphasized that generative AI should be viewed much like traditional media: when systems generate and disseminate content, existing libel and defamation standards still apply. In his view, businesses and developers should not assume AI provides a liability shield, as courts are increasingly willing to analyze AI-generated statements under established defamation frameworks – particularly when false information causes reputational or financial harm.
