Lathrop GPM Partner Bernie Rhodes was quoted extensively in the piece, and emphasized that generative AI is legally comparable to traditional media. He underscored that defamation law remains relevant as technology evolves.
“It’s called generative AI because it generates content,” Rhodes said. “In that regard, generative AI is no different than traditional media, which generates content. And if traditional media gets it wrong, they can be sued for defamation … so when it happens with AI, the rules are the same.”
