Maxwell Murtaugh is an accomplished estate and fiduciary litigation attorney, located in the firm’s St. Louis office. Max’s practice focuses on resolving complex legal disputes involving trusts, estates and guardianships. Max’s appellate experience includes: cases involving trust reformation due to mistake, enforcement of settlement agreements, breaches of fiduciary duty, trust interpretation and the enforcement of arbitration provisions.

While primarily involved in trust and estate matters, Max has been involved in all types of legal disputes, ranging from protecting shareholder interests in a closely held corporation, to defending a surviving spouse’s rights under an antenuptial agreement.

Max earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law magna cum laude, where he honed his legal research and writing skills as an editor of The Saint Louis University Law Journal. Max earned his B.A. in English from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California in 2011. He also spent a year teaching English in South Korea after graduating college.

Prior to joining Lathrop GPM, Max served as legal counsel at another St. Louis-area law firm where he honed his litigation skills in a variety of civil and fiduciary matters. While in law school, he also dedicated his time to serving the community through pro bono work at Land of Lincoln Legal Services and internships at Mercy Hospital and the Catholic Immigration Law Project.
