Leah Kanihan is an associate in Lathrop GPM’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice in Minneapolis. She re-joins the firm after clerking at the Minnesota Supreme Court for Justices Theodora Gaïtas and Karl Procaccini. Leah served as a summer associate at Lathrop GPM in 2024.

Leah earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2025 and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. During law school she was an active participant in moot court proceedings, reaching the quarterfinals and earning third-best brief at the 2025 Moot Court National Championship. In 2024, Leah won the Gender and Sexuality Moot Court Competition and was named second-best brief and third-best oral advocate. She also reached the semifinals in the Civil Rights Civil Liberties Moot Court Competition and received the Legal Research and Writing Section Best Oralist award.

Before law school, Leah earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy, magna cum laude, from Rice University. She worked as a data analyst and data intelligence planner at an advertising firm and interned for Justice Charles Spain at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston. During law school she served as Student Director of the Insurance Law Clinic, where she represented clients in insurance matters and secured monetary recoveries.
