Judith Karunanayake (née Somaratne) has been working in the field of Intellectual Property law since 2008, having started her career as an attorney in New Zealand.

Judith has experience managing large domestic and international trademark portfolios and helping brand owners obtain and enforce rights in their trademarks.

Prior to joining the firm, Judith worked in-house at Tailored Brands, Inc., the parent company of The Men’s Wearhouse Inc. She also worked at New Zealand’s largest Intellectual Property law firm, AJ Park, where she advised clients on trademark matters both in New Zealand and Australia.  During this time she completed her Masters of Law (LLM) in Intellectual Property at The University of Melbourne Law School (Australia).  

In 2012, Judith was honored for her legal writing by the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (“IPSANZ”), winning the John McLaren Emmerson QC prize for her paper entitled “Is there a conflict between the protection of indigenous cultural heritage rights and the existence and/or exercise of intellectual property rights”.

In her spare time, Judith has taken to gardening, flower arranging and always enjoys spending time with her young family.
