Grant S. Handy is a staff attorney in Lathrop GPM’s Tort, Insurance & Environmental practice group, focusing on the defense of manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors in complex product liability and asbestos litigation across jurisdictions nationwide. He represents clients in high-exposure toxic tort matters involving alleged occupational and environmental asbestos exposures, handling matters from initial discovery through depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
Before joining the firm, Grant practiced at another firm in Chicago, where he represented manufacturers and distributors in complex product liability litigation. He has substantial experience defending industrial clients against asbestos-related claims, including developing case-specific defense strategies, conducting and defending depositions, and preparing dispositive motions.
Grant also prepares detailed litigation assessments for corporate clients, analyzing medical evidence, exposure histories, corporate records, applicable law, and settlement trends to provide practical recommendations regarding liability and litigation strategy. His risk-evaluation work spans cases across Illinois and multiple other states.
