Emma Piazza is an associate supporting clients across a range of litigation matters. Emma joined the firm after working as a summer associate in 2024, where she conducted legal research and drafted discovery requests, tolling agreements and client alerts on topics including class action lawsuits, contract law, property law, tax law and SEC regulations. She also contributed to editing legal documents such as amicus briefs and lease agreements.

Emma earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, graduating in the top 1% of her class. While in law school, she was part of UMKC’s National Moot Court team, winning Best Oral Advocate at the Regional Moot Court Competition. Her team finished as semi-finalists at the National Moot Court competition. These efforts earned her an induction into the Order of Barristers National Honor Society. Emma also served as a Lawyering Skills Teaching Assistant and was a member of the UMKC Law Review. She received the Julian Klein Davidson Scholarship in recognition of her academic achievement.

During law school, Emma gained experience through internships with the Kansas Court of Appeals, the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas, and the Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom. Her work included drafting trial briefs, complaints and settlement offers, preparing legal memoranda on procedural due process and bail schedules, and assisting with client intakes and discovery. As a judicial intern, she conducted legal research and drafted proposed opinions for Chief Judge Arnold-Burger, Judge Hurst and Judge Schroeder.

Emma holds dual undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas – a Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition. She was actively involved in student leadership and DEI initiatives, including serving as Vice President of Spectrum KU and as a Student Senate Senator.

Outside of work, Emma is passionate about community engagement. Prior to law school, Emma helped build houses around the Kansas City community as an AmeriCorps member for Habitat for Humanity Kansas City. She has also volunteered as a guitar instructor for AMPLIFY Lawrence.
