7/13/2010

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 13, 2010) — The law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that Jennifer Reedstrom Bishop, a shareholder and chair of the firm’s Health & Nonprofit Organizations practice group, is the new chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Business Law Section.

The MSBA Business Law Section—which Bishop previously served as vice chair—drafts, proposes, and reviews legislation, such as improvements to the Business Corporation Act, the Uniform Partnership Act, the Limited Liability Companies Act, the Uniform Commercial Code, and the Nonprofit Corporation Act. The section also conducts an annual Business Law Institute in conjunction with Minnesota CLE, presents breakfast and lunch hour CLE programs, and offers pro bono opportunities for business attorneys in Minnesota.

Bishop’s practice with Gray Plant Mooty is focused on providing legal services to health care providers and nonprofit organizations throughout the region. She assists physicians, hospitals, clinics, and other health care entities in negotiating the complex health regulatory environment and provides advice on joint ventures, affiliations, medical staff matters, contracting, tax-exemption matters, and a variety of business planning topics.

In the nonprofit area, Bishop represents a wide range of organizations ranging from start-up nonprofits to well-established foundations and multi-entity nonprofit operating systems. She is an expert on all issues facing nonprofits—from conflict of interest, intermediate sanction, and governance matters to joint ventures, public charity status, and private foundation issues.

Bishop, who received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, is also a member of Gray Plant Mooty’s board of directors.
