Gray Plant Mooty Client RELCO's Verdict Named to the Top 100 Verdicts for 2013

4/8/2014

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (April 8, 2014) — The law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to share its recognition in The National Law Journal’s listing of the “Top 100 Verdicts” in 2013 for the firm’s successful $23.78 million verdict for RELCO in an intellectual property dispute against Keller. Gray Plant Mooty’s win for RELCO ranks as the 91st largest verdict in the United States in 2013.

The trial, which lasted nine days, ended in October 25, 2013 in Kandiyohi County (Minn.) District Court. The jury found that two former employees of RELCO, based in Willmar, Minnesota, took thousands of confidential computer files before moving to work at Custom Fabricating & Repair, Inc. (CFR) in Marshfield, Wisconsin. It was also proven that CFR knowingly used the files to unlawfully compete against RELCO. CFR will be held responsible for approximately ninety percent of the total due to RELCO, and the two companies are seeking a resolution of the legal proceedings that will minimize disruption to others in the industry, including customers.

Each year, The National Law Journal compiles a listing of the nation’s largest verdicts by scouring court records and consulting with practitioners. The amounts listed on the Top 100 Verdicts represent jury awards and do not account for judicial reductions, offsets, or appeals.
