Bitzan Amundsen Recognized as 2018 Up & Coming Attorney
MINNEAPOLIS (June, 21, 2018) – Gray Plant Mooty attorney Catherine Bitzan Amundsen has been named a 2018 Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer. Bitzan Amundsen is one of 24 Minnesota-based attorneys named to the 2018 list.
The annual listing honors attorneys who have distinguished themselves during their first 10 years of practice. Selection for the Up & Coming Attorney recognition is based on professional accomplishments as well as leadership and service to the community. Minnesota Lawyer’s editorial staff selected the honorees based on nominations from law firms, legal associations, previous award recipients, and other members of the bar.
In her law practice, Bitzan Amundsen advises nonprofit and health care organizations, including public charities, private foundations, community foundations, hospitals, physician groups, and others. She specializes in tax exemption, governance, grantmaking, and advising on joint ventures, affiliations, and nonprofit mergers and acquisitions. A growing area of her practice is advising nonprofits with international operations. Recently she partnered with a Paraguayan law firm to help Project for the People of Paraguay navigate the country’s laws on foreign financial contributions to charities and import/export laws affecting the transfer of donated goods and medical supplies to the country.

Bitzan Amundsen devotes many hours to pro bono work and currently represents and serves on the U.S. Advisory Board of the Mama Hellen Lotara School in South Sudan, and is helping the school build strategic partnerships with nonprofits and funding sources based in the United States. Bitzan Amundsen also serves as Chair of the Board of the Gray Plant Mooty Foundation. The Foundation partners with Gray Plant Mooty employees to strengthen our communities through grantmaking and volunteerism, with emphasis on increasing access to justice and legal services.
Announced in the June 20 edition of Minnesota Lawyer, Bitzan Amundsen and the other 2018 honorees will be recognized at a September 12, 2018 celebration at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis.
