1/28/2020

Kansas City, MO (Jan. 28, 2020) – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation released its 2020 Corporate Equality Index and *Lathrop GPM received a score of 95 out of a possible 100, a reflection of the firm’s commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality with respect to tangible policies and best practices. The firm’s rating went up five points from its 2019 score.

The CEI is the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. This year’s index rated 1,059 of the nation’s largest employers in various industries.

The CEI ratings are based on benchmarking criteria under five broad categories:

  • Non-discrimination policies
  • Employment benefits
  • Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion
  • Public commitment to LGBTQ equality
  • Responsible citizenship

“We are pleased to see our CEI score rise as a reflection of our continued commitment to diversity and inclusion at every level, and in all aspects of our firm,” said Lathrop GPM Managing Partner Cameron Garrison. “We expect this commitment to be evident not solely in policy handbooks, but also in the professionals who make up our teams and in the way all members of our firm family interact with our clients, our communities and one another.”

In 2018, Garrison signed the CEO Action pledge supporting the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion coalition, becoming one of the first 20 law firms to sign the pledge. In 2019, the firm won the Jackson County Bar Association Pyramid of Diversity Award, recognizing Kansas City, Missouri-area law firms who have excelled in their efforts to enhance diversity for people of color. The firm is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, the Center for Legal Inclusiveness and the Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, among other diversity and inclusion-focused organizations, and sponsors and participates in numerous diversity and inclusion initiatives across the firm’s markets. More about the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives can be found at lathropgpm.com/diversity.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

*The Index lists the firm under one of its legacy firm’s names Lathrop Gage LLP, however the rating is an accurate reflection of Lathrop GPM, as the combination between Lathrop Gage and Gray Plant Mooty has only strengthened the firm’s commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality.
