Ringquist Scores Pro Bono Win For Wrongfully Evicted Client

8/30/2015

MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 30, 2015) - GPM Housing Court team member DJ Ringquist recently helped a woman and her family defeat an eviction action and, at the same time, expunge the action from her record.

After the client, JK, moved into a North Minneapolis home, she and her children began experiencing disturbing behavior from the landlord.  The home was in need of repairs, and the landlord began entering the client’s home without providing notice (allegedly to make the repairs).  He would enter the locked house with his own set of keys, even after being asked to provide notice before entering.  The landlord also sexually harassed JK’s teenage daughter and frequently offered her marijuana.

When JK stopped paying rent and moved out, the landlord filed an eviction action.  At the initial hearing, the landlord denied any wrongdoing and the case was set for trial.  DJ prepared JK’s case, and on the morning of trial, the landlord defaulted, and the Court dismissed the eviction action.  JK’s request for expungement was also granted, and the client was thrilled that this matter will not hinder her ability to obtain affordable housing in the future.
