In the face of recent litigation against charities by tort claimants, and resulting bankruptcy proceedings for the charities, more donors are questioning how they can be sure their gifted dollars are used to pursue the charitable missions of their chosen charities.

Join Gray Plant Mooty attorneys Sheryl Morrison, Sarah Duniway, and Phil Kunkel for this presentation to discuss the circumstances underlying, and the legal conclusions that can be drawn from, those recent legal actions.

The session will also cover various types of gifts donors can make, including restricted versus unrestricted gifts and endowment versus immediate gifts, and how those gifts can be affected by a charity’s liability. Finally, we will explore some best practices nonprofits can consider and implement to preserve their donors’ gifts for their missions.
