The employer mandate under health care reform goes “live” on January 1, 2014. How well-prepared is your institution to account for employees and offer appropriate health care coverage? The mandate applies to any employer with 50 or more full-time employees, and penalties can be assessed if coverage isn’t offered to full-time employees. The tricky part is that “full time” under health care reform doesn’t correspond to most higher education institutions’ definitions of the term. Most institutions currently offer coverage to some, but not all categories of employees. They’re wondering how the mandate will affect the way they currently provide health care coverage. This session will provide an overview of the mandate, some practical and concrete details on what it takes to avoid penalties, as well as a discussion of what schools need to be doing now to prepare.
