Mark Levison Selected to Represent Missouri Citizens’ Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials

11/13/2008

Lathrop Gage member Mark Levison has been appointed to advise the Missouri Citizens’ Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials through its process of coordinating public hearings throughout the state and issuing its report to the Secretary of State fixing the compensation for legislators, judges and other public officials. The first public hearing will be at 9 a.m. November 18 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Missouri Constitution Article XIII, Section 3, provides for the Commission to review the appropriate compensation for those in public service, every two years. The Commission is charged with conducting at least four hearings across Missouri and then issuing its salary compensation report to the Secretary of State by December 1, 2008. The compensation fixed by the Commission goes into effect unless disapproved by concurrent resolution adopted by a 2/3 majority vote of the general assembly before February 1, 2009. Tim Hufker, the President & CEO of Centrics, LLC, was elected Chairman of the Commission on November 12, 2008.

The second public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on November 18 in Springfield, followed by a November 24 hearing at 5:00 p.m. in St. Louis. The fourth and final public hearing on the subject will take place at 9:00 a.m. on November 25 in Jefferson City. Locations of the hearings will be announced shortly.

This distinction is the latest in Mr. Levison's long career dedicated to public service. He was recently a member of the Missouri Legislature's subcommittee on the Privatization of Government Services, and is currently the General Counsel of the Urban League of St. Louis, and the Secretary and Commissioner of the Land Reutilization Authority of St. Louis, Missouri. As a trial lawyer Mr. Levison has made law in several distinct areas. He is a recognized leader of the organized bar, being one of only two lawyers in the history of The Missouri Bar to serve as President of both the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Trial Lawyers Association of St. Louis and to serve as a member of The Missouri Bar Board of Governors.
