Lathrop Gage Helps Lead Foreclosure Crisis Counseling

6/24/2008

Member Jack Craft (Kansas City - Government Relations) and Lathrop Gage  played a key role in a free foreclosure counseling clinic held in Kansas City on Thursday for local homeowners who have been hit by the recent mortgage crisis. Mr. Craft has been a member of the foreclosure task force that hosted the event, and throughout the year the firm has regularly hosted the weekly planning meetings that prepared the clinic. The group also works in collaboration with governmental bodies and addresses other strategies on an ongoing basis for helping local homeowners, when appropriate, avert foreclosure.

The foreclosure task force was recognized and applauded for its efforts in this regard by the Kansas City, Mo., City Council. The group provides the means for the interested government entities to discuss the problems caused by foreclosure. Those who have been a part of the discussions at the firm include the FDIC, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Missouri Housing Development Commission, HUD, the Local Investment Commission, the Mid-America Regional Council, and NeighborWoks America.

The group estimates that thousands of Kansas City metro-area residents are facing foreclosure. Some of the groups that have been meeting at the firm to address this issue receive funding and support through the federal National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program which was approved in late 2007 by the U.S. Congress.
