Thomas Johnson Recognized for Outstanding Service; Cruz-Guzman Team Also Honored
MINNEAPOLIS (February 18, 2019) — Gray Plant Mooty Principal Thomas Johnson was recently recognized for Outstanding Service to the Profession through the Minnesota Lawyer Attorneys of the Year awards.
In a legal career spanning nearly five decades, Johnson has shown a steadfast commitment to improving the justice system for all people. Through private practice, public service, and pro bono work, Johnson has helped individuals and organizations – and bettered society along the way. Two of Johnson's crowning lifetime pro bono achievements include:
- Creating the Minnesota Protocol as part of The Advocates for Human Rights, which was adopted by the United Nations.
- Co-founding, a center that offers services to children who are victims of abuse. CornerHouse has provided interview training to more than 30,000 individuals from every state in the nation.

As a member of the Gray Plant Mooty Litigation Practice Group, Johnson practices in the areas of internal investigations, regulatory and legislative affairs, and environmental and land use law. He represents a variety of clients at the local, state, and federal levels. He has provided counsel in many sensitive matters, including high-profile investigations.
Prior to joining the firm, Johnson served as Hennepin County Attorney (1979-1991). He also served on the Minneapolis City Council (1973-1977), on many boards of directors, and as an adjunct professor, frequent lecturer, and author of numerous articles for legal and business audiences.
Previously recognized by Minnesota Lawyer as an Attorney of the Year, Johnson becomes a Circle of Excellence honoree.
