Gray Plant Mooty Announces Expanded Parental Leave Policies

MINNEAPOLIS (July 6, 2016) – The law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that it has recently updated its paid parental leave policies, effective July 1. Under the new gender-neutral policy, all new parent attorneys are afforded 16 weeks of paid leave. This policy also includes those attorneys who are adopting children, and it applies to all attorneys at the firm, regardless of how long they have been working at the firm. These benefits represent the most expansive parental leave policy among major Twin Cities law firms.

“Many other firms are heading in the direction of increased time for parental leave. Our new policy is in line with this trend but puts us a step ahead of our peers,” said Sarah Duniway, a managing officer at the firm. “With these changes, we hope to help the firm continue to attract and retain the most talented people and, at the same time, support our attorneys in achieving a successful, long-term career at GPM.”

In addition to the updated parental leave policy for attorneys, the firm is undertaking further process improvements to aid its attorneys and practice groups with the transition to and from parental leave. The firm is also adding a new benefit of paid parental leave for administrative staff. The plan allows for 8 weeks of paid parental leave, in addition to PTO and extended leave benefits.

Earlier this year, Gray Plant Mooty was recognized as one of Law360’s “100 Best Law Firms for Female Attorneys.” The firm was also recently ranked 35th out of more than 250 national law firms in the National Law Journal’s Women in the Law listings. In both cases, the firm’s support of working parents was cited as a key factor for its recognition.
