A. Asad Imam Selected as Inaugural Recipient of Lathrop GPM LLP 1L Diversity Opportunity Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 13, 2023) — Lathrop GPM LLP is pleased to announce that A. Asad Imam, CFE, is the inaugural recipient of the firm’s 1L Diversity Opportunity Program award. Imam expects to graduate in 2025 from The American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. He currently serves as a 1L Summer Associate with Lathrop GPM in the Kansas City, Missouri office working primarily with the firm’s Franchise & Distribution Practice Group on litigation and transactional matters.

Imam also works as a Paralegal II for Marriott International where he handles franchise hotel development contracts and corporate transactions. Imam’s lifelong involvement with youth empowerment and education, including his work with at-risk youth in Los Angeles, franchise consulting at Mathnasium – The Math Learning Center, and his recent involvement with the Marriott-Sorenson Center for Hospitality Leadership at Howard University exemplifies his dedication to guiding and supporting students in establishing meaningful connections with diverse professionals and industry leaders. Working at Marriott International, and previously at Mathnasium – The Math Learning Center, has inspired Imam to pursue a career in franchise law after graduation. In addition, Imam has provided pro bono legal support for veterans via the Veterans Consortium and Afghan asylum applicants via Lathrop GPM.

Imam will gain invaluable legal experience during a seven-week engagement at Lathrop GPM. Additionally, he will have the privilege of immersing himself in the dynamics of an in-house legal team through a three-week legal clerkship with Hallmark Cards, providing him with comprehensive insights into different legal perspectives and practices.

A graduate of the University of Southern California, Imam received his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Business Law in 2016. Imam is also a member of the International Franchise Association.
