Partner Robert Thackston Named a Texas Trailblazer

10/5/2020

Oct. 5, 2020 — Lathrop GPM Partner Robert E. Thackston has been named a 2020 Texas Trailblazer by Texas Lawyer. Thackston, who is Partner in Charge of the firm’s Dallas office, is among those recognized for making “significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector.”

A member of the Product Liability & Tort Litigation Practice Group, Thackston is being named a Trailblazer in part for his reputation for taking the “unwinnable” cases and causes, including those with extravagant funding from plaintiffs’ lawyers. He is known for respectfully challenging court rules and practices intended to “streamline” litigation” to the extreme prejudice of defendants. He once sat alone against plaintiff and defense lawyers arguing for Texas silica litigation MDL consolidation. A federal judge later declared that litigation essentially frivolous. He has confidence in, and respect for, the jury system and effectively combats practices intended to undermine its purpose.

Thackston represents clients in product liability, toxic and mass torts, and commercial and environmental litigation matters. His clients include well-known public and private corporations from around the world, as well as prominent individuals. He often teams with a company’s large firm outside counsel to try extremely high-risk cases. Originally from North Carolina, he has tried cases from New York to New Orleans, Detroit to San Francisco.
