Lathrop Gage Adds Five Associates in Kansas City and St. Louis

Kansas City, Mo. (Dec. 12, 2019) - Lathrop Gage is pleased to welcome five new Associates to the firm to its Kansas City and St. Louis offices: Brandon Chapman, Colin T. Halpin, Noah Nash, Garrett Pratt and Brooke Parsons.

Joining the Kansas City office:

Brandon Chapman joins the firm's Environmental and Tort team, focusing his practice on defending corporate clients in mass tort, toxic tort, product liability and environmental litigation matters. Chapman received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, 2019, where he served as Note and Comment Editor for the Arkansas Law Review. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Arkansas, 2015. Chapman's prior legal experience involved working as a legal extern for Walmart Legal Operations at the company's headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, 2018; working as a judicial extern for the Hon. Timothy L. Brooks of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Ark., 2018; working as a as a summer associate for Lathrop Gage, 2018; and working as an extern with the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Ark., 2017. Prior to his legal career, Chapman worked as a logistics coordinator for a large transportation company where he negotiated the transportation of individual truck loads with outside carriers and maintained communication, oversight and timely problem solving regarding transportation logistics.

Noah Nash joins the firm's Insurance Recovery and Counseling team, experienced drafting federal and state court pleadings, motions and other court documents. He worked as a summer associate for Lathrop Gage this year and in 2018, assisting with a variety insurance recovery matters, mass tort claims, environmental litigation, campaign finance and class action lawsuits. Prior to his legal career, Nash worked as a catastrophe claims adjustor for a large insurance carrier, where he worked to provide aid to victims of natural disasters. Nash received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law, 2019, where he served as Lead Articles Editor for UMKC Law Review and belonged to Phi Delta Phi legal honors society. He received his B.A. in Business Administration from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., where he served as Co-Captain of the Men's Soccer team, 2009.

Garrett Pratt joins the firm's Tax and Employee Benefits team, adept at advising clients regarding federal income tax and employee benefits matters and the tax ramifications of various business transactions. He also assists clients with forming and dissolving legal entities, corporate reorganizations and advises on tax issues arising from the operation of partnerships and limited liability companies. Pratt also counsels charitable and other tax-exempt organizations on obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status. Prior to joining the firm, Pratt served two years as a law clerk for the Hon. Brian T. Fenimore, United States Bankruptcy Judge. Pratt received his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, 2019. He received his Juris Doctor, with a concentration in Transactional Tax Law, from the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia, 2017, where he served as Managing Editor of the Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review, and his B.A. magna cum laude, in Music, from the University of Missouri, 2016.

Joining the St. Louis office:

Colin T. Halpin joins the firm's Tax and Employee Benefits team, focusing his practice on real estate and tax credit financing. He works on matters involving new markets tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, Opportunity Zones and low-income housing tax credits, as well as other federal, state and local tax credits and incentives. Halpin received his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kan., 2019, with certificates in Tax Law, Business and Transactional Law and Estate Planning. He also served as President of the Tax and Estate Planning Association, coordinated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Clinic and was a member of the Washburn Law Journal. Halpin received his B.S. in Economics and History from Kansas State University in Manhattan, 2016, where he was a member of the Marching Band.

Brooke Parsons joins the firm's Business Litigation team. She worked this year and in 2016 as a summer associate with Lathrop Gage, and for two years prior as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Paul C. Wilson of the Supreme Court of Missouri. Parsons received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia, 2017, where she graduated Order of the Coif and served as Associate Editor in Chief of Missouri Law Review. She received her B.A., cum laude, in Business Administration from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 2014, where she was on the Women's Basketball team and a member of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.
