A neighborhood nonprofit is ready to move on plans for a residential redevelopment on Kansas City’s East Side now that a legal battle with a city agency has ended.

The Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council plans to convert the shuttered Horace Mann School at 39th Street and Euclid Avenue into a $6 million affordable senior housing project. A legal dispute that handcuffed the project for years came to a close on Aug. 31, when the Missouri Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal by Kansas City’s Planned Industrial Expansion Authority to reverse a finding that the agency had used faulty appraisals in a condemnation proceeding. Read more ...
