Missouri Lawyers Weekly Speaks to Mike Abrams on Important Fifth Circuit Opinion
On June 7, Missouri Lawyers Weekly spoke to Mike Abrams on the recent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals opinion on behalf of three wrongfully convicted men in Mississippi. The opinion in Travelers Indemnity Co. v. Ethel Mitchell, is a victory for the families of the three men who spent decades in prison for a rape and murder they did not commit, as well as policyholders.
The court held that the insurance carriers had a duty to defend Forrest County who was sued by the estates of the wrongfully convicted defendants, and the opinion establishes precedent ensuring that hundreds of thousands of exonerees will be financially compensated for their wrongful imprisonment.
