The Kansas City Business Journal recently quoted Jerry Riffel while covering a crucial step in the eventual approval of a new Helzberg development in the Crossroads District. The Kansas City Plan Commission recommended that the city give up the proposed area on Tuesday.

If approved, the vacation would accommodate the first portion of a multiphase development by Helzberg, who proposes renovating two vacant Film Row buildings for historic offices. The buildings to be saved include the former Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios buildings at 214 W. 18th St. and 220 W. 18th St., respectively.

Although the project sits in the existing W. 17th Street TIF district, the development does not contemplate using the incentive, said Jerry Riffel, an attorney representing Helzberg.
