Nonprofit Alert: Federal Election Commission 2019-2020 Contribution Limits
This month the Federal Election Commission announced updated contribution limits for the 2019-2020 election cycle. Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, which is the primary federal law governing political campaign spending and fundraising, certain campaign contributions are indexed for inflation every two years based on changes to the cost of living.
For the 2019-2020 election cycle, the inflation-adjusted limit on a contribution from an individual to a candidate increased to $2,800 (from $2,700) per election, per candidate. Further, the limit on what an individual may give to a national party committee increased to $35,500 (from $33,900) per calendar year.

The per election limits on candidate contributions went into effect on November 7, 2018 and end on the date of the next general election, November 3, 2020. All other contribution limits are in effect for the two-year period of January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020.
The 2019-2020 contribution limits were published in the Federal Register on February 7, 2019, at 84 Fed. Reg. 2504.
