FAS are a class of over 5,000 different chemicals that are known for their non-stick and grease, oil, and water-resistant properties. These physical properties make PFAS useful in a variety of applications, including cookware, food packaging, and food processing. Last year we hosted a webinar exploring PFAS in the food supply industry and as predicted, PFAS has continued to receive an increasing amount of attention, culminating in a wave of class action lawsuits filed in April and May of this year targeting quick-service restaurant franchisors and other food packaging companies. This litigation risk, combined with potential for media attention, consumer activism and increasing regulatory pressure will require companies in these industries to closely monitor this trend.
