Lathrop GPM Partner Laura Reathaford and her daughter, Temple gymnast Emma Reathaford, recently filed an objection to the proposed House v. NCAA antitrust settlement. The objection centers on roster limits that could force Division I athletes to lose their team spots.

Reathaford emphasized the human impact of these changes:

“Thousands of NCAA Division I athletes will be irreparably harmed because their schools will be forced to cut them from their current teams.” Reathaford said.

She also pointed out a fundamental conflict in the settlement goals.

“While the monetary relief settlement class purports to pay out millions … the injunctive relief class imposes ‘roster limits’ that will require some Division I schools to ‘renege’ on their prior commitments to college athletes.” Reathaford said.
