(January 9, 2023) – Lathrop GPM LLP is pleased to welcome Richard Beem and Alex Shtraym to the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. Beem joins the Chicago office as a partner and Shtraym joins the Dallas office as an associate.
Beem has more than 30 years of experience with patent prosecution and patent litigation work. He advises clients in the chemicals and polymers, pharmaceutical, biomedical, software, computers, electrical, mechanical, and industrial industries, among others. Beem’s practice includes the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, as well as litigation, including trials and appeals for both patents and trademarks, and hearings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In addition to Chicago, he will also be working from the firm’s Dallas office.
Shtraym works with executives and product design teams to obtain patents, maintain patent portfolios, protect trademarks and avoid or minimize exposure to the intellectual property rights of others. He also routinely conducts examiner interviews and responds to Office Actions with amendments and arguments to advance prosecution through issuance.
“Rich and Alex bring comprehensive practices to the firm, and Rich has obtained hundreds of patents for clients and handled numerous PTAB hearings and federal court litigation,” said Loren Hansen, Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group Leader. “Their experience will be an added benefit to our growing team and adds to the firm’s strong reputation in the IP Litigation space as we continue to serve clients nationwide.”
Beem and Shtraym previously worked at Beem Patent Law Firm, which was founded by Beem in 2000.
“We are delighted to have Rich and Alex join the firm. As lawyers and engineers, they add to the strength of our IP litigation practice and expand the group’s depth into our Chicago and Dallas offices,” said Cameron Garrison, Lathrop GPM Managing Partner. “Their dedication to their practices and clients is the perfect cultural fit for the firm.”
