Join us for our returning Employment Law Series. Led by the firm’s San Jose Labor & Employment team, this series of hybrid client events will be held onsite in Northern California and live‑streamed via webinar. The series provides timely insights on current issues and recent developments in employment and labor law, with a focus on matters impacting California employers, including organizations with operations or significant business ties in the Golden State.
Session 1: Wage and Hour
The first session will explore complex wage‑and‑hour compliance challenges and evolving employer obligations under California and federal law. Topics will include: employee classification, California minimum wage and overtime requirements, meal and rest period compliance, recordkeeping obligations, business expenses reimbursement issues and considerations for remote workers. Our labor and employment attorneys will draw on real-world examples and recent California court decisions to highlight common pitfalls and provide practical guidance and recommended best practices to help employers navigate California’s complex wage and hour laws and the realities of today’s workplace.
Session 2: Leaves of Absence
This program will provide an overview of key federal and California leave laws, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL), Paid Sick Leave, Paid Family Leave (PFL), and other protected leaves such as bereavement, military, and crime victim leave. Our attorneys will discuss how these laws interact, highlight key distinctions between them, and address related accommodation obligations under California law. Using practical examples and recent legal developments, the program will offer recommended best practices for managing employee leaves and navigating California’s complex and evolving compliance landscape.
Register for Session 2 by Tuesday, May 5.
Session 3: Performance Management
The final session in the series will address strategies for managing employee performance while maintaining compliance with state and federal employment laws. Topics include documenting performance concerns, effective coaching and progressive discipline, and balancing accountability with fairness and legal defensibility. Presenters will also discuss best practices for determining when to escalate performance issues, managing difficult employee situations, and determining when separation may be appropriate. Through practical guidance and real-world examples, this session will equip employers with tools to address performance challenges confidently and compliantly.
A link to register for Session 3 will be added as the event date approaches.
