Our Summer Program
We are proud of our firm. We hope that this is reflected in our Summer Program – our primary source for new associates – where law students work side-by-side with partners, counsel, and associates in order to create opportunities for our clients and find creative solutions to real-life problems. We make sure that our Summer Associates get to experience the hands-on practice of law by working directly with our attorneys, as well as attending out-of-office events like depositions, witness interviews, negotiations, closings, and client meetings.
A Culture of Collaboration
In addition to meaningful work, we provide ample social and team-building events throughout the summer to build strong connections across our firm, including patio parties, trips to client facilities, tours of local attractions, and evening outings at sporting events.
Meaningful Mentorship and Professional Development
Each Summer Associate is assigned a partner mentor and an associate mentor. We also conduct regular skills seminars, addressing not only substantive skills like research and writing, but also practical skills to help our Summer Associates navigate the day-to-day practice of law.
After the Summer Program, we continue to develop the skills of rising associates and provide additional mentoring and professional development. Our commitment to intensive mentoring and training is a key reason our associates are able to manage cases, take depositions, lead trials, and directly counsel clients much earlier in their careers than their peers at most other large firms.

Lathrop GPM’s 10-week 2027 Summer Program will run from Monday, May 24 through Friday, July 30. We anticipate hiring 1L summer associates in our Kansas City, Minneapolis (through the Twin Cities Diversity in Practice 1L Clerkship Program), and St. Louis offices. Applications for Lathrop GPM’s 1L 2027 Summer Associate Program will open on Friday, November 13th.

Is Lathrop GPM participating in law school interview programs?
No. Lathrop GPM is following a direct-hire approach and will not participate in law school on-campus interview programs this summer.
What is the 2027 Summer Associate hiring timeline?
Out of respect for final exam schedules, we do not plan on scheduling interviews until after exams. We anticipate initial interviews will begin the week of December 28th and call back interviews will begin the week of January 11th. We will continue to review applications on a rolling basis until our positions are filled.
