Raymond J. Urbanik

Raymond Urbanik focuses his practice on bankruptcy and restructuring matters in Lathrop GPM's Dallas office. Ray has worked in a variety of bankruptcy cases and business restructurings in over 25 years practicing in Texas and New York where he is currently licensed, as well as throughout the United States. 

Ray has been engaged as counsel for debtors, financial institutions, corporate creditors, receivers and trustees, creditor’s committees, insurance carriers, and purchasers of assets in Chapter 11 cases. He has also been involved in many types of bankruptcy litigation matters including bankruptcy appeals, complex executory contracts, fraudulent transfer litigation, lender liability cases, preference actions, property of the estate issues, non-discharge actions and equitable subordination claims. Additionally, Ray has worked on non-bankruptcy workouts, state court receiverships and has also been retained by trustees in contingency fee matters.

Ray is an active member in the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association. He previously served as the president of the Turnaround Management Association Dallas / Fort Worth Chapter. Ray is a guest lecturer at the University of Texas, Dallas campus, Naveen Jindal School of Management, where he speaks on Chapter 11 restructurings. Ray has also volunteered for a number of Dallas area non-profit organizations, including service as a board member for several Dallas area non-profit groups.

• Representation of parties of interest in Chapter 11 cases filed by a multinational company which specializes in the production and processing of industrial minerals, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware

• Representation of Daniel J. Sherman, the Liquidation Trustee of Color Star Growers of Colorado Inc., and related entities, pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas, in insurance claim litigation stemming from an extensive 2013, flood of a Color Star property in Weld County, Colorado;

• Representation of Jason Rae, the Administrator of the Bankruptcy Estate of Foundation Healthcare and University General Hospital pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, For Worth Division, related to litigation against third parties concerning operations of a hospital, University General Hospital in Houston;

• Representation of national bank on claims in excess of $50 million in two Chapter cases filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, ADPT, Inc and Walnut Hill Physicians Hospital;

• Counsel for the Creditors Committee and subsequently the Chapter 7 Trustee, of an oil and gas exploration company which filed for Chapter 11 relief in 2017, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas;

• Representation of the Robert Ogle, Post Confirmation Trustee in the Chapter 11 case of Ericson, Inc., pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division;

• Representation of a Mexico City based Board of Directors with respect to the non-bankruptcy workout of a Texas based technology company;

• Representation of the State Court appointed Receiver, in the 66^th Judicial District Court of Dallas County, for a Dallas, Texas based consumer products company;

• Representation of a large Oklahoma university in connection with preference litigation brought in the Life Partners bankruptcy case filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Fort Worth Division;

• Representation of Trustee Robert Milbank in a Chapter 7 case filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, related to a diamond broker “Ponzi scheme”;

• Representation of the Stanley Mastil, Settlement Trust Trustee in the District of Delaware Chapter 11 cases of Tuscany International Holdings, USA and Tuscany International Drilling (USA), Ltd.;

• Representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Color Star Growers of Colorado, Inc. and affiliated entities; as well as representation of the Post-Confirmation Trustee. Color Star Growers was one of the largest greenhouse growers in the United States and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas in December of 2013;

• Representation of the stalking horse bidder in the Sea Trail Corporation Chapter 11 case, filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina;

• Representation of lead counsel for the antitrust litigation plaintiffs in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of Reddy Ice, Inc. and Reddy Ice Holdings, Inc., filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas;

• Representation of The Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors and the Post Confirmation Trustee in the Chapter 11 case of Home Interiors and Gifts, and related entities, filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas;

• Representation of the creditor committees in several business bankruptcy cases filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas, including the Chapter 11 cases of Stempel Manufacturing Corporation and BSM Corporation;

• Representation of an international outsourcing company in executory contract negotiations, claim matters and litigation matters in the Chapter 11 cases of Delphi Corporation, Eclipse Aviation, Washington Mutual, Inc and Smurfit Stone Container Corporation;

• Representation of a regional bank in two bankruptcy cases and certain non-bankruptcy matters related to a real estate investment trust - Trans Continental Investors;

• Representation of a telecommunications manufacturer in its Chapter 11 case in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas;

• Representation of Daniel J. Sherman, as Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 Trustee, in connection with an internet domain holding company case and related receivership pending simultaneously in the United States Bankruptcy and District Courts for the Northern District of Texas;

• Representation of an oil and gas exploration company in an out-of-court restructure;

• Representation of the stalking horse purchaser of a Texas-based musical instrument retailer, Brook Mays Music Centers;

• Representation of a Dallas, Texas based franchised restaurant operator in over fifty general corporate, bankruptcy and litigation matters;

• Representation of a restaurant chain, Harrigan’s Restaurants, Inc., in a Chapter 11 proceeding filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas;

• Chapter 11 representation of the successful stalking horse purchaser of a health care business in a case filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, consisting of multiple retail pharmacies and infusion centers, including Dallas, Texas based Daugherty’s Pharmacy, Inc.;

• Representation of the purchaser of an education web site for students and educators in a Chapter 11 case.
