April 23, 2020 – Chambers USA, the nationally recognized client guide of America’s top law firms and lawyers, released its 2020 edition today that includes Lathrop GPM among its prestigious rankings. The firm and 30 of its attorneys received nationwide and regional honors in this year’s directory. For the first time, Chambers USA recognized the Lathrop GPM work in Insurance Recovery and named three insurance-recovery practicing attorneys among the firm’s ranked honorees. The firm’s Franchise group is listed in the top five firms in the USA, ranking nationally for the 14th year in a row and with eight franchise attorneys individually ranked.

“We are pleased to see Lathrop GPM’s strong rankings in Chambers USA, as it is the first of its 2020 guides to recognize the legal strength of our firm post-combination,” said Lathrop GPM Managing Partner Cameron Garrison. “Because the Lathrop GPM culture is founded upon a client-first mentality, we are proud to be recognized in this Chambers guide as it relies heavily upon client feedback. Being ranked in Chambers USA ultimately reflects our clients’ satisfaction.”

In regard to the new recognition for Insurance Recovery, Lathrop GPM is one of the largest firms in the United States representing policyholders. The firm’s Insurance Recovery & Counseling team represents a variety of commercial claims for Fortune 500 companies, municipalities and individuals, frequently achieving precedent-setting outcomes in favor of policyholder claims, including in the area of business interruption. The group also includes a team that focuses in the area of Civil Rights Insurance Recovery, a pioneering niche practice that litigates §1983 civil rights claims on behalf of exonerees who were wrongfully imprisoned. Since 2004, the firm has recovered more than $190 million on behalf of wrongfully convicted individuals, including a record-breaking $60.5 million settlement in 2019 for the case known as the “Englewood Four,” the largest wrongful conviction settlement in history, and a $21 million recovery in 2019 for Craig Coley, the largest single-exoneree settlement in history.

“High-ranking clients across a variety of industries – agribusiness, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing and real estate to name a few – continue to call upon our insurance recovery team for help in high-stakes insurance matters,” said Kim Winter, Practice Group Leader for Insurance Recovery and Counseling at Lathrop GPM. “In addition, the team proudly plays a role in helping bring restitution to individuals who were wrongfully convicted.
